How to Secure a Lace Wig for a Full 30 Day Hold

lace wig applicationHave you recently purchased a new  full lace wig but it won’t stay on for more than a week at a time? This could be caused by many factors. Whether or not your lace wig will stay on usually depends a lot on your skin type.

If you are anything like me with oily skin, then your lace wig probably hasn’t stayed on as long as you would have liked it to. I tried several glues and adhesives and they worked but just not as long as I had liked them to.

Then a friend told me to try using two types of adhesives at once. I did it and I was surprised after a few attempts that I had no more lifting and my lace wigs became one with me. It was like my own hair.

Since then I wear my lace wig all the time and never had to worry again about it coming off or lifting. I go out on wind days, I cycle and I swim just like it is my natural hair. I absolutely love the confidence I have now since I applied it correctly.

The most important factor in securing any lace wig appliance is how you prepare the area before you apply the tape and glue and then you set it. Doing these two things correctly can make all the difference in the world.

The first thing you should do is wash your own hair with a shampoo that is formulated for greasy hair or preferably with a dry shampoo product. Dry shampoo is a powder based shampoo that is used to freshen the hair follicles and remove excess grease and is ideal for lace wig wearers that plan to wear their lace wigs for extended periods of time. Dry shampoos can be purchased from most health food stores.

Once your hair has been washed and dried, you need to prepare the hairline by taking a cotton ball that has been dipped into rubbing alcohol and cleaning the area around the forehead, behind the ears and the nape. Rubbing alcohol is best because it cleanses, sanitizes and dries well in contact with the air.

The next thing to do is to cover your own hair and scalp with a wig liner and then to apply a thin layer of lace wig glue to the hairline. It’s always best to apply the glue with a bottle dropper for a cleaner application. Once the glue has been applied let it stand for 5 minutes or until the area becomes tacky.

Once the glue is sticky it is time to apply your transparent lace wig strips. Apply them around the entire hairline pressing firmly in place. Once more apply another thin layer of glue on top of the tape strips and then apply your lace wig.

Having the two layers of tape and glue will give you a double bond and a very secure hold. Take a hair band or bandana and tie it around your hairline to set the wig in place. Using a blow dryer on low heat,  blow around the hairline with the head band on secure.

Leave the head band in place for 30 minutes and voila! You have an extra strong hold and a flawless hair line. If you want to wear your lace wig for a long time, you may also want to try this double bonding technique using both adhesive and tape. Done correctly your lace wig should stay intact and secure for a full 30 days without lifting. It is so nice to know that I have this beautiful head of hair, that is secure, will never come off and is just like my own. I just love it!
