Here in this post, I’ll be discussing different wig fiber types. Today, lace front wigs and hairpieces have become an important fashion accessory, which is not just used for an effective makeover but also hide your different medical conditions like baldness, thin hair, alopecia and chemotherapy after-effects. No matter for which purpose you use these hairpieces, you must make sure they don’t have any ill effects. And, for this, having knowledge about their different fibers is essential. Below is an account of those important fibers of which these lace front wigs and hairpieces are made. Take a look:

•    Synthetic Wig Fibers: There can be many wigs made from synthetic wig fiber in the inventory of wigs Toronto. It is you who has to make out whether it will suit you or not. These synthetic fibers are made of fine plastic like polyester, acrylic or polyvinyl, which are finely processed to look like real hair, resulting in decent wig textures. Such types of hairpieces come with a preset style but with an only disadvantage that they cannot withstand heat. But yes, they demand less care and are reasonably priced to fit any pocket.

•    Heat-friendly Fibers: You can shop for a wide range of wigs Toronto that is made of heat-friendly fibers. Picking these hairpieces will let you style the way you want as they can easily undergo 350 degrees heat. So you can easily use hair straighteners, curling irons, and even blow dryers on these wigs. The best part about them is they are inexpensive and require less care and maintenance as compared to human hair wigs Canada.

•    Human Hair Fibers: We all love this one. Isn’t it? And we are usually found searching for human hair wigs more as compared to their synthetic counterparts. Certainly, it is the plus points of these fibers that make them so searchable. Although they are expensive than synthetic fibers but they bet a flawless natural look that no other wig fiber can offer. Its another version is Remy wigs, which are known to be made from the highest quality of human hair. So human hair wigs Canada are simply the best in all form and functionality.

However, the final pick is always yours. You can choose any from the exquisite collection of wigs Toronto and can make a difference.

How to take Care of Your New Custom Made Human Hair Wig

Styling Your Custom Wig

Now that you have your custom unit in your hands, you must be excited to put it on. Your custom unit is made with 100% Human Hair. It’s all real so you can do almost anything you want with it just like you would your own hair.

If you don’t want to use a hairdresser to style your wig, that is okay to! You can do it yourself. Practice makes perfect. Just because your unit is custom, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun styling it yourself.  The best styling tools for human hair are steam rollers. We’ve also included a list below of supplies that can be used for styling and caring for your wig. Blow dryers, curling irons and other thermal tools may be used on low settings to style your hair. You can style the wig while you are wearing it or you can pin the wig onto a mannequin head and style it there first before putting it on.

Note that your unit is not styled. In order to create the most natural looking hairline possible, you will have to set the hair in the front of the wig.  To do this, take a spray bottle of water and lightly mist the hair around the hairline. Then take a fine tooth long handled comb and pull the desired amount of hair that you require forward. Roll the hair with a roller or use pins to set to desired style and then blow dry or allow the hair to dry naturally. If you want bangs, you can use this same procedure for cutting in your own hair bangs as well. We recommend you always cut your bangs longer than the desired length first, put the wig on and then trim to suit.

Unless you ordered a permanent part in your unit, your unit is most likely multi-directional. This means that you can part the simulated scalp any way you like. Using plain water, or styling hold gels or sprays and parting the hair where you want it can be set and styled to your liking.

Colouring Your Wig
Although we never recommend it, if your new wigs color isn’t completely what you desired, the good news is that you can dye it because its real. Human hair wigs are human hair so they can in fact be dyed but do so at your own risk.
If for any reason, you need to dye your unit, it is always best to have it done professionally by a hair stylist. The general rule of thumb for dying hairpieces is that you can only make the hair darker, not lighter. So if you want to make your unit a little darker in color, that is okay but please proceed with caution. Do not leave the hair dye on too long to avoid any over processing of the hair. There are many great over the counter hair dyes that can be used on wigs at home. Make sure to choose semi-permanent hair color and choose a product that is strictly for “processed hair” as those kits usually include a conditioning cream that goes on the wig before dying take place to keep the hair from damage.

Wearing Your Custom Wig

To get started, place a nylon wig cap on your head to cover your own hair. This will help lye your own hair flat under the wig and even help a more secure fit. If you don’t have hair, we recommend that you cleanse the scalp and then slip your wig on.

Feel free to use the adjustable straps to tighten to fit to desired comfort. If you feel comfortable using tape, you can also use adhesive on your unit but it is not necessary.  Depending on the type of design you have, you should position the (ear tabs) slightly above your ears to find the right fit. If your unit has a neck tab, that should be centered at the nape of your neck. Some units have come with clips or combs. You can also use this to secure the unit to your own hair and find correct positioning.

Having a human hair wig is great fun. Your unit is made of real hair, so you can cut it style it, and curl or straighten it as you like. With proper care, your unit can last you a very long time. Listed below is a list of tools to help keep your human hair unit long lasting and beautiful. Enjoy your new hair!

How to Remove Your Lace Wig

Once you have worn your lace wig for awhile, you may decide that is time to remove it. Removing your lace unit every 2-4 weeks is recommended so that you can clean your own hair underneath. Please read on for instructions on how to remove your lace wig.Beautiful young woman dyes her hair

  1. Use some adhesive remover such as Citrus Glue Remover to saturate the perimeter of the lace where it is applied. Use a wand brush or blush brush as shown above and below or a well saturated  to apply the solvent around the lace of the hairline applying it directly to the lace.remove-lace-wig
  2. Once it has been applied, wait for at least 10 – 20 minutes or until you can see the lace lifting up from the skin’s surface. The longer you wait for the solvent to work, the better so that you keep the lace in tact and prevent any rips or tears to your unit.
  3. Once the remover has done it’s trick, you are now ready to remove the lace. Use a Q-tip and slowly push around and under the lace lifting it up slowly in sections being careful not to rip or tear the lace. This will preserve the lace on your unit and prevent damage to your own natural hairline.
  4. Once your wig is removed, use a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol to clean the area around the skin and remove any additional residue. Take a warm cloth and pat around the area to open up your pores.
  5. Smooth some vaseline or moisturizer (coconut oil) around your hairline when complete and finish off with a cold compress to allow your pores to close.

How to apply your lace wig using tape

If you have just purchased a human hair lace wig and would rather apply it using tape instead of glue, here are some handy instructions for you to consider.

corn-rows-applying-lace-wigs-canada

  1. Braid your hair in cornrows or pin your hair flat and place a wig cap on your head that is in a colour that is closest to your scalp.
  2. Take some double sided tape and cut it if necessary to a desired shape to go around the perimeter edge of your wig. Try to line up the tape as close to the hairline as you can. It is also so wise to let the tape go between the wig cap and your skin to ensure all areas are covered properly.
  3. Leave a few spaces between the tape pieces to allow room for your scalp to breathe.
  4. Place the wig on your head so that the perimeter of the lace lines up with the tape.
  5. Pin back the hair so that it doesn’t stick to the tape when it is being applied.
  6. Peel the tape backing off to reveal the adhesive.
  7. Start at the front of your hairline and attach the wig starting at the middle of the forehead.
  8. Press the tape down firmly and hold for up to a minute.
  9. Once the wig has been applied to your full hair line, tie a head band or silk scarf on to your head and pull tight to set the tape adhesive to form a firm bond.
  10. Wear your head scarf for 30 minutes to an hour and remove. You now have a beautiful natural hairline and everyone will think it’s your own hair!

How to Care for Custom Wigs

Online Custom Wigs

Buying Custom Wigs in Canada is easy, but you have to take special care of it and this requires practice and some certain techniques to ensure that your wigs have a long life. The best way to care for your custom wig is to take extra care when cleaning it, particularly trying to avoid tangling and knotting the hair.

Just follow some of the points below mentioned to retain your wig’s health:

Washing Instructions

  • Add one full cup of specially formulated wig shampoo to lukewarm water in a bowl.
  • Gently shake the wig in the water for at least four minutes; completely immerse the wig in water for good results.
  • Repeat this whole process again but this time by adding a good quality conditioner for wigs.
  • Wash the hair in clean water.
  • Gently shake and blot out any excess water in your custom wig using a towel.
  • Leave the wig to drip dry till it is damp, you can do this at room temperature.
  • Make sure that the hair on the wig is not tangled and in case it is tangled simply use a wide toothed brush or comb to remove the tangles.

Tips to Styling Your Custom Wigs

It is very simple and easy to style wigs if you know how to do it properly. The golden rule to styling wigs is that you must never brush the hair when it is still wet. If you are combing the hair after wearing it, hold the cap or base of the wig to reduce the chances of breakage of hair. You can always use a curling tong, heated rollers and a hairdryer to style your custom wig to get your desired look; but only if the wig is made from real human hair. Remember not to heat the hair for too long or it might permanently damage the wig. The trick to maintaining the style of your hair is not to brush the hair too much.

Never heat or use things such as heated rollers on fiber hair; neither indirect nor direct heat should be applied to it. You can use a high-quality oil to brush away tangles and knots on wigs, this will also give it a shine and healthy look.

If you have bought Online Custom Wigs than you can also shop online for wig care products such as fiber oil conditioners or a sprays and gels that will maintain the style of the wigs consistently so that you do not have to labor over it every time.

Store Wigs Safely

Make sure that you store wigs safely away from any direct sunlight as the fiber hair wigs have the tendency to fade color if they are exposed to direct sunlight for too long. Also keep the wig on a stand specifically made for wigs. This will also help the wig retain its shape and prevent the hair from getting all tangled up.

If you are planning to buy custom wigs in Canada we recommend that you purchase from an online store as they offer products at affordable prices and guide you with tips to handling your wigs in the right manner.

How Wigs are Made

What is a Wig?wig makers toronto A “wig” is a head covering made of human hair or synthetic materials. People wear wigs to be in style, for aesthetics, theatre performances, traditions, ceremonies, and medical reasons such as cancer. For persons, who are dealing with lack of hair due to various cancer treatments, wearing a wig can provide a means of great emotional support during a scary time in one’s life. See our post Women and Breast Cancer and Medical Hair loss for more information about causes of hair loss.

History of Wigs

Wigs were popular accessories during the ancient times. The British Museum shelters a wig with perfect preserved curls discovered in a temple dedicated to Isis, dating from 1000 BC. In France, wigs gained a huge popularity during the reign of Louis XIV (known as the Sun King). The wearing of wigs represented an emblem of the social status until the end of the 18th century. The beginning of the 19th century brought a series of improvements like the flesh colored net and silk net, as well as regarding the fitting and knotting methods. Hairdressers used to adorn their clients’ head with false buns and curls. In the 1960s, a new fashion came into view: the wigs made of synthetic fibers. Nowadays, wigs are customary accessories in the world of entertainment: theatre, movies, and television performances.

How the hair is preparedhow to make a wig

The first stage of natural hair (from humans and animals) preparation consists of dividing it into small bunches that are lying in the same direction. The short hair and broken strands are separated by the help of a wire brush called “hackle”. Each bunch of hair is washed with soap and disinfectant, rinsed, squeezed, and dried. The clean and dried bundles are passed through “drawing brushes” and sorted in groups of equal length. Then they are curled or waved and dyed in the required color by blending several shades to give the hair a natural appearance. The synthetic fibers are manufactured directly into the desired colors.

Adding the hair The foundation is made of net, synthetic materials or flesh colored silk inserted with elastic or small bones to allow a secure positioning. The edges are cut from fine mesh silk that best suits the hair color. The foundation is placed on a wooden block with the shape of a head. There are two techniques used to add the hair to the foundation.

The first (and the oldest) method, is based on wefts sewn by hand to the foundation placed on the block. The second one relies on attaching the hair to the net by the help of a hook called “ventilating needle”. The tool has different sizes and is used to knot the strands of hair directly to the foundation. The wigmaker’s skills count a lot when it comes to deciding the number of knots and their direction in order to obtain a natural look. A full wig made of human hair contains about 30.000 to 40.000 knots and requires six heads of hair.

For more information about the different types of wig caps please see our post, Types of Wig Caps.

Styling the Wig The last step is reserved to styling. The wig is placed on a soft block and styled just like a hairstylist does in a beauty salon. The hair is combed using a wet comb; the curls are formed with cotton rollers and after the final arrangement is covered with a net and dried.
